Connecticut Auto Transport by Rail ServicesConnecticut auto transport by rail services could certainly be harder to find. But it’s not like they’re rampant, either; auto shipping via the railroads isn’t as big as it used to be. Luckily, we’re here to help. While Connecticut isn’t the largest state, nor does it have “large” cities, it’s still a popular car shipping hub. This is mostly due to its location, sandwiched between New York and Massachusetts. Let’s talk about Connecticut auto transport by rail services!

Connecticut Auto Transport by Rail Services

If you’re shipping by rail to or from Connecticut, there are a few potential options. As a major industrial center during the 19th and early 20th centuries, Connecticut has numerous rail lines running through its major cities. This is a big boon for auto transporters who ship via the railroads – and, by extension, you.

Bridgeport is probably your best bet. As the largest city in Connecticut, it perhaps has more rail ties than any other city. However, it’s not the only one. Stamford, Hartford, New Haven, Danbury, Waterbury – they were all industrial cities during their prime years. So the question isn’t access – it’s whether or not there are shipping companies that go there.

And that’s the biggest issue for most people shipping via railroad. If there are no companies that offer rail service to Connecticut, you’ll likely have to use an over-the-road trucking company. You can speak to an agent regarding availability and what offers are on the table for individual shippers.

Popular Auto Transport Locations in Connecticut

As mentioned, Bridgeport is the largest city in the state. Because of this, it will likely be the best starting point if you’re shipping to or from the state, rail or otherwise. It’s the easiest to get to and has more rail lines than any other city in the state.

New Haven
New Haven sits a bit northeast of Bridgeport, but it sits along the same basic routes as Bridgeport. Shipping to or from New Haven should cost about as much as Bridgeport. However, its smaller stature may mean that no rail service is available, in which you’d have to ship to or from Bridgeport.

Like New Haven, Stamford sits close to Bridgeport, but it may not be accessible by rail shippers. As Bridgeport is probably the most likely destination for trains, you may need to go there to pickup or deliver your vehicle. Shipping from the train station via overland truck is also an option usually.

Hartford sits pretty far north away from Bridgeport and the rest of the cities we’ve mentioned. That’s usually not an issue, but for auto transport by rail it could be. Speak to an agent about availability and what you can do if there are no rail shippers available.
