Idaho Auto Transport by Rail ServicesIdaho auto transport by rail services are likely going to be rather difficult to find. Don’t get us wrong – we can definitely get your vehicle into or out of anywhere in Idaho, given enough time. It just likely won’t be by rail.

Rail transportation services are mostly reserved for manufacturers shipping to dealerships and the like. From this, we can tell that most rail shippers that handle vehicles do so on a bulk basis; booking one or two vehicles for a single customer usually isn’t cost-effective. Amtrak runs the auto train up and down the eastern seaboard, but you ride the train along with your car. Otherwise, rail services are tough to find.

The kicker with Idaho is literally its location and its lack of demand from customers. There just aren’t a lot of people shipping cars to that area, so even among carriers prices go up and wait times increase. It’s far from impossible to ship there – you just need to understand what you’re up against.

Idaho Auto Transport by Rail Services

We will say that if rail services to or from Idaho are available, we will find them for you. Chances are they’ll be going through Boise, which is the main rail hub in the state as-is. As the largest city in the state, it’s not surprising; the rail lines were a big reason for its growth, after all. But again, shipping cars to Idaho is tough enough, and rail services may not be available.

Note too that shipping via rail may not be the most cost-effective solution, either. The industry has shifted to overland truck transportation mostly because of price. It’s cheaper to ship via truck thanks to expediency, multiple loads, and ease of access. So truckers tend to cost less than rail services for an individual such as yourself. Make sure to speak to an agent to learn more and to discuss your auto transport by rail options.

Popular Auto Transport Locations in Idaho

As mentioned, if there’s rail service it’s probably going through Boise. As the state’s largest city, it’s not surprising in the least. Speak to an agent to see what routes are available for you.

Meridian is a bedroom city of Boise, so if you’re shipping by rail to Meridian it’ll go to Boise. That said, Meridian sits just west of Idaho’s largest city, so at worst you can Uber over to the train station to pick your vehicle up (or to get back from the terminal).

Nampa, like Meridian, is a bedroom city of Boise, so the same basic things apply here as they do to Meridian. It sits a bit further away, so you may want to contact a tow company or a local car shipper to get your vehicle to or from the terminal.

Idaho Falls
Unlike Meridian and Nampa, Idaho Falls is not a bedroom community of Boise. This hurts the potential for transport by rail services, but not all is lost. If trains aren’t running through Idaho Falls, but they are through Boise, your agent can find a car shipping truck to get your vehicle to or from the train station.
