New York Auto Transport by RailAre you looking for New York auto transport by rail services? If so, we can help you – sort of. Auto transport by rail is not nearly as popular as shipping by truck, and isn’t available on just any route. Typically, shipping via the railroad is limited to service along Amtrak’s Auto Train. Now, that being said, there are some cities that see auto transportation by rail services. These tend to be bulk shipments, however; shipping for manufacturers to dealerships and the like. Shipments for individuals can be harder to find due to a relative lack of demand. Also, it tends to cost more to ship a car by train than by truck, at least for the shipping companies. But, if there are New York auto transport by rail services, we can help you find them!

New York Auto Transport by Rail

Naturally, the most popular car shipping hub in New York State will be New York City. It’s the largest city in the state, in the United States, and anchors the second-largest metro area in the country. So if there’s rail services to or from New York, New York City will likely be where they’re headed.

It’s not surprising, really. New York City is one of the largest commercial markets in the world. Every conceivable method of freight hauling services New York City, or its metro area. A lot of it actually goes through New Jersey, which sits just across the river. This is also where a lot of the cars destined for the inner city, like Manhattan, end up being shipped to. Auto transport by rail can be a good alternative to shipping by car if it’s available on the route. And that’s really the hardest part – finding routes that it’s available on.

If you’re shipping from the southern U.S., like Florida, you may be able to take the Auto Train. But that only runs from Sanford, Florida, to Lorton, Virginia. So you’d still have to do some driving at either end. If that’s not your cup of tea, and rail service isn’t available on your route, shipping by truck will likely be your best bet.

Popular Auto Transport Locations in New York

New York City
As mentioned, New York City is going to be the best option for New York auto transport by rail. It’s the state’s largest city and one of the main commercial centers of the country. So if there’s rail service available, New York City will likely be where the trains are going.

Buffalo
Buffalo is a far cry from New York City, both in size and location. It sits up in northwestern New York State. But the cool thing is that Buffalo has long been a major industrial center. So it definitely has rail connections. The question is whether there’s auto transport by rail to or from Buffalo. Speak to an agent about availability.

Rochester
Rochester is somewhat close to Buffalo – at the very least, in the same general region. So if there’s shipping services to or from Buffalo, they may go through Rochester as well. Again, speak to an agent to learn more.

Yonkers
Located just north of New York City, Yonkers is almost like a “sixth borough” of the city. As such, shipping to or from Yonkers will usually be done through New York City.
